Ten skyrim
Open world fantasy gameplay done right
Today, it’s easy to criticize Bethesda for its tired gameplay formula, but the studio once made worthwhile games. Although the developers are past their prime, Skyrim will continue to be their best work.
The fifth installment in the Elder Scrolls series was released in 2011 and was a huge critical and commercial success. While certain game elements certainly feel dated, when it comes to atmosphere, music, and exploration, Skyrim is still a classic.
9 dragons dogma 2
Immersive, liberating, and endlessly engaging
2012’s Dragon’s Dogma was a huge hit for Capcom, gaining a cult following. The series has since been adapted into an online MMORPG and an animated show on Netflix, but there has never been a true sequel. Things changed when Dragon’s Dogma 2 hit stores in 2024.
The game certainly contains some inexplicably ridiculous microtransactions that leave a bad taste in the mouth, but at its core, Dragon’s Dogma 2 is an exceptionally immersive fantasy RPG, and a great It’s a sequel.
8 God of War (2018)
Reboot of Sony’s trademark Norse mythology series
Santa Monica Studios’ God of War series was one of Sony’s trademark IPs during the PS2 and PS3 era. Even though the series still had a strong fan base in 2018, the studio took Kratos’ story in a less far-fetched direction.

A beautifully crafted BioWare RPG
In between the critically acclaimed first and second Mass Effect titles, developer BioWare released Dragon Age: Origins in 2009. The first installment of the Dragon Age series spawned several sequels over the years, including his Dragon Age: Inquisition in 2014.

6 The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
The epic third chapter of Geralt of Rivia’s story
There’s a reason Cyberpunk 2077’s 2020 release received such a huge backlash. Much of that is due to CD Projekt RED’s previously impeccable reputation as a top-notch game studio. Perhaps the standout title in their perfect record is The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
The third chapter of Geralt of Rivia’s Monster Hunter adventures, based on author Andrzej Sapkowski’s The Witcher novels, received critical acclaim from all over the world upon its release. Even if its luster fades over time, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt remains a fantasy classic.

Iconic works of Final Fantasy Saga talked about
Considering there have been over a dozen mainline Final Fantasy games to date (not to mention all the spin-offs), we know there are many streams of thought as to which game is the king. It’s not surprising though. But for many fans, it’s 7, which is the luckiest number.

3 elden ring
A brutally challenging masterpiece with a beautiful atmosphere
No discussion of sublime fantasy video games would be complete without at least one FromSoftware title. The studio has proven as adept at providing demanding enemies as it is at building its own fantasy worlds.
Elden Ring is more or less the number one FromSoftware game you can play on PS5. Even if the hardcore gameplay is formidable for you, the fantastic design of this fantastical realm might be worth an arm and a leg, or in this case, the patient.
2 Divinity Original Sin 2
A combination of exemplary writing, great gameplay, and engaging characters
It’s amazing how much exemplary writing can be done to examine average gameplay. It’s a very rare occurrence, but it’s happened in games like Fallout: New Vegas and Spec Ops: The Line. Luckily, Divinity Original Sin 2 has both.

1 baldur’s gate 3
One of the best fantasy RPGs of all time
Even with recency bias, it would be foolish to say that Baldur’s Gate 3 doesn’t belong in the category of the best RPGs of all time. Set in the world of Dungeons & Dragons, you’d be hard-pressed to find a fantasy video game that better exemplifies the genre.
The 2023 Game of the Year turns out to be a springboard for Larian Studios to be named among the top respected video game developers. There are very few flaws to detect here, and in every way Baldur’s Gate 3 represents the fantasy genre better than any of his other PS5 games.
