July is the middle of summer blockbuster season, and a ton of movie sequels are coming out. But they’re all a little different, including a long-awaited sequel to a classic ’80s action-comedy, the third instalment in a quirky horror trilogy, and an action movie that has almost nothing in common with its predecessor except for bad weather. (And… Seven Samurai(One of the greatest movies of all time.) Television has also been busy, bringing us everything from helpful robots to godlike cats. From Prime Video series to new theatrical releases, here’s a look at what’s in store this month.

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. (Netflix, July 3)
Fourth attempt Beverly Hills Cop The film, and for a while, the TV series, has been stopped and started so many times over the years that it’s hard to believe it was actually made. Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. Eddie Murphy reprises his role as Detroit-based, sometimes Beverly Hill-based Axel Foley, who returns to Los Angeles to deal with threats directed at his estranged daughter (Taylor Paige). The cast features familiar faces such as Judge Reinhold and Paul Reiser, as well as newcomers Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Kevin Bacon. Stream on Netflix
major (In theaters July 5th)
Director Ti West and star Mia Goth X And continue to the first part Pearl This sequel is set in 1985. major Maxine Minkus (Goth) is trying to make it as an actress in Los Angeles, but, well, if you watch Xand you will understand.
sunny (Apple TV+, July 10)
The film is based on a novel by Colin O’Sullivan and is set in a near-future Japan reminiscent of the 1960s. Dark Manual Starring Rashida Jones as Susie, an American woman trying to cope with the aftermath of a mysterious plane crash that appears to have killed her husband and son. In theory, at least, a friendly robot named Sonny (voiced by Joanna Sotomura) can help Susie, but Susie doesn’t particularly want Sonny around, at least at first. Stream on Apple TV+
Sausage Party: Foodtopia (Prime Video, July 11)
Most of the voice actors from the 2016 hit movie Sausage Party reunite for this TV spinoff, set in a world where anthropomorphized food tries to create a safe space where humans can’t eat it (and, of course, there are plenty of food puns and crude jokes). Stream on Prime Video
Fly Me to the Moon (Theatrical release July 12th)
Sure, NASA was pretty confident they could put a man on the moon, but who doesn’t need a back-up plan? New comedy, Fly Me to the Moondirected by Greg Berlanti ( With love, Simon The CW Mastermind Arrowverse Series and RiverdaleIn the film, Scarlett Johansson plays a marketing expert tasked with organizing a fake moon landing in case Apollo 11 goes awry. Channing Tatum co-stars as the NASA administrator with whom she has a close relationship.
Long legs (Theatrical release July 12th)
Osgood Perkins has quietly become one of the most consistently fascinating horror film directors over the past decade, thanks to works such as: Black Coat Dieter and I’m the cute thing that lives in the housePerkins’ latest work, Long legsStarring Maika Monroe (It Follows) is tasked with tracking down a serial killer known only as “Longlegs” (Nicolas Cage).
Exploding Kitten (Netflix, July 12)
King of the Hill The team of Mike Judge and Greg Daniels are executive producing this new animated series based on the popular card game, which fleshes out the game’s mythology and stars Tom Ellis and Sasheer Zamata as God and the Devil, respectively, after the latter is transformed into a cat. Stream on Netflix
Emperor of Ocean Park (MGM+, July 14)
Plans to adapt Steven L. Carter’s 2002 best-seller have been in the works since it was published, but it’s finally coming to fruition with this 10-episode miniseries. Forest Whitaker stars as a famous judge whose sudden death leaves his children and those around him questioning whether there was foul play. Stream on MGM+
The Dying (Peacock, July 18)
We all know the entertainment industry can be a dangerous and cutthroat place, but has it always been that way?Saving Private Ryan) is the creator of the series, which is set in the world of ancient Roman gladiators and those who controlled them. Anthony Hopkins (not playing a gladiator) will star alongside Roland Emmerich (independence day) will team up with Marco Kreuzpaintner as director. Stream on Peacock
Twister (In theaters July 19th)
The 1996 blockbuster Twister It’s a standalone sequel that pits a team of storm chasers against tornadoes. Twisterdoesn’t seem to stray too far from the formula, co-starring Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glen Powell as two tornado experts who approach their jobs in surprisingly different ways. Lady of the Lake (Apple TV+, July 19)
Based on a novel by renowned journalist and mystery writer Laura Lippman Lady of the Lakethe miniseries is set in ’60s Baltimore. The Apple TV+ show stars Natalie Portman as a journalist investigating unsolved murders, including the eponymous “Lady of the Lake” case.The Queen’s GambitThe film is directed by Moses Ingram. The documentary, commercial, and music video veteran Alma Har’el will be directing. Stream on Apple TV+
Time Bandit (Apple TV+, July 24)
Terry Gilliam’s 1981 fantasy film Time Bandit The film tells the story of a band of thieves who travel through time, accompanied by a young boy who is amazed to meet Robin Hood, Napoleon, and other legendary figures. It seemed like a premise that could easily be adapted into an ongoing series, leading to this new interpretation of the story from frequent collaborators Jemaine Clement, Ian Morris, and Taika Waititi. Lisa Kudrow stars as Penelope, the leader of the bandits. Stream on Apple TV+
The Decameron (Netflix, July 25)
Giovanni Boccaccio’s “One of the masterpieces of medieval literature” The Decameron It’s a collection of stories told by 14th-century Florentines as they waited out the plague in the hills above their city – not an easy adaptation to make, so expect an unorthodox take on the material in this new series of dark comedies. Stream on Netflix
Deadpool and Wolverine (Theatrical release July 26th)

Writer/director Shawn Wang’s coming-of-age story Diddy After captivating the Sundance Film Festival in January, the film is now set to attract a wider audience.Good boy) stars as a teenager trying to figure out where she fits into the world of California in 2008. Joan Chen co-stars as her mother.
