Here’s the first trailer for the animated adaptation of Look Back, the acclaimed one-shot manga by Chainsaw Man creator Tatsuki Fujimoto.
A departure from the guts and gore of the blood-splattered anime phenomenon Chainsaw Man, Look Back tells the story of Kyomoto and Fujino, two rivals-turned-friends brought together by their passion for drawing manga. It is depicted.
As the trailer (which you can watch below) shows, Fujino begins in Kyomoto’s shadow before joining forces to experience life beyond the walls of the drawing room. Even without English subtitles, you can see why this achingly beautiful film, backed by gorgeous art and songs by Haruka Namura, has shot to the top of fans’ wishlists this year.
“Look Back” is directed by Kiyotaka Oshiyama, a member of the animation team behind Studio Ghibli films such as “The Boy and the Heron,” “The Wind Rises,” and “Arrietty.”
Unfortunately, as of this writing, there is no news of a West Coast release. As of now, the release date in Japan is June 28th, so there’s a chance it won’t get a wide release after all.
Meanwhile, Chainsaw Man is coming back, but there’s no season 2 yet. Instead, the Reze Arc movie will continue Denji and Pochita’s story on the big screen.
There are many other new anime that you can look forward to this year. The first new Dragon Ball series since Akira Toriyama’s death will be released this fall. In May, Demon Slayer season 4 will return to screens, as will My Hero Academia season 7.
