Ever since Netflix started producing original movies, the streaming service has become an annual staple of Hollywood awards season
Ever since Netflix began producing original movies, the streaming service has become an annual staple of Hollywood awards season. He will also host the Screen Actors Guild Awards on Saturday.
The 30th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards will be streamed live on Netflix for the first time starting at 8pm ET. The awards ceremony, held at the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall in Los Angeles, is expected to draw a much larger audience than in recent years, but it’s simply a matter of a split between front-runners Oppenheimer and Barbie. It’s not just because a new battle will be waged.
After more than 20 years of broadcasts on TNT and TBS and declining viewership, Netflix acquired the rights to air the SAG Awards in early 2023. Last year, the SAG Awards were streamed live on Netflix’s YouTube channel before Netflix prepared a platform for the event. This time, SAG will be streamed live to Netflix’s 260 million subscribers worldwide.
How to watch the program
It’s easy. Just stream it on Netflix. The ceremony will last approximately two hours without commercial breaks. To catch up later, the show will remain on Netflix for his 28 days. This is one of the service’s most significant forays into live streaming events to date. Netflix has previously hosted a live comedy special with Chris Rock, a celebrity golf tournament, and a live reunion episode of “Love Is Blind” that was marred by technical issues. But Netflix has more in store. A tennis event will be live-streamed on March 3rd.
How can I watch the red carpet?
The Associated Press is hosting two livestreams from the carpet, one with stars posing upon arrival and one with interviews with attendees.
Entertainment Weekly and People magazine are hosting the red carpet show starting at 6pm ET and will be available to watch on their YouTube page and streamed on their social media accounts.
What is your favorite?
My favorite movie is “Oppenheimer,” which you may have heard of before. Christopher Nolan’s nuclear epic is up for four major awards, including SAG’s top honor, Best Ensemble. But Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” also won four awards and could challenge “Oppenheimer” for best ensemble.
Academy Awards voters will likely be paying attention. Oscar voting is currently underway and closes at the end of Tuesday. Three of his last four SAG ensemble winners have won the Oscar for Best Picture. “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” “CODA” and “Parasite” all won SAG Awards and later Academy Awards. The exception was the 2021 winner “The Trial of the Chicago 7.”
Among the TV nominees, “Succession” is expected to add to its Emmy and Golden Globe wins. This work has been nominated for five of her awards. Also on the list are “The Bear,” “Ted Lasso,” “Beef,” and “The Last of Us.” ”
Where is the biggest drama?
While some categories seem like an ironclad winner for weeks, like Best Supporting Actress favorite Davine Joy Randolph (The Holdovers), some of the major awards are less certain. isn’t it. The most anticipated contest of the night is Best Actor.
Paul Giamatti (The Holdovers) is neck-and-neck with him, but Cillian Murphy (Oppenheimer) may have a slight edge for Best Actor. The same goes for Best Actress, which could go to either Lily Gladstone (Killers of the Flower Moon) or Emma Stone (Poor Things).
What else should you expect?
The SAG Life Achievement Award goes to Barbra Streisand. Among the presenters will be the trio of The Devil Wears Prada stars Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt.
This year’s SAG Awards also come after months of grueling strikes in which the SAG-AFTRA union waged a bitter fight over a number of issues. Many of the suspensions occurred in the wake of changes in the film and television industry brought about by streaming, a revolution spearheaded by Netflix.
