“I’m having fun,” he continues. “How could you not? It’s such great material, great working relationships with great actors, and such an interesting character. Both versions reflect the director in many ways. One is visual, colorful And it’s romantic. The other one is very fascinating.”For me, movies are forensic and more sinister, and often reflect the person at the helm of the camera. ”
The narrative arcs of both versions of Tom Ripley’s story are very similar, but as Law points out, Minghella’s film is richer and more romantic compared to Zaillian’s black-and-white neo-noir approach. Still, that didn’t stop the project from stirring up a lot of emotion on Raw.
“I haven’t seen anything I’ve been in in years,” he added. “So it was funny how many scenes were similar and it brought up so many memories in my head. And I knew it well. I was like, ‘Oh, I remember this.’ Even the name of Dicky’s maid, Ermelinda, I remember always saying, “Ermelinda, Ermelinda.” There was also an emotional level to revisiting those characters. ”
