More than a dozen people were injured in a streetcar crash at Universal Studios theme park in Southern California on Saturday night, according to local news.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department officials told the Los Angeles Times that the last of four streetcars was traveling down a slope in a parking lot at Universal Studios Hollywood when it struck the rails.
Law enforcement said in a statement to USA Today that several passengers fell off the streetcar in the accident, which occurred in the parking lot below the studio.
“There was some issue with the brakes,” Lt. Maria Abar told the LA Times. “We don’t know exactly yet.”

An emergency call about 9 p.m. Saturday called rescuers to the park, which is part of the Universal Studios complex in Universal City, which is part of the San Fernando Valley. Rescuers found 14 injured people and at least four were taken to hospital, the newspaper said, but later reports put the number at 15.
The sheriff’s office said most of the injuries were minor.

Aerial footage from Los Angeles’ KCAL-TV showed paramedics treating several injured guests and removing at least one person on a stretcher.
In a statement to USA Today, a spokesperson for the theme park confirmed that the “streetcar accident” resulted in “multiple minor injuries.”
The statement continued: “We are working to support our guests and understand the circumstances that led to the accident.” No such circumstances were disclosed in the release.
Abal told the Times that more than 100 people can ride on the theme park’s trams. She did not know how many people were on board at the time of the crash.
The tram tour, titled “World Famous Studio Tour,” is the theme park’s most popular attraction, according to its website.Park celebrates his 60th anniversary of the rideth anniversary. The tram takes patrons behind the curtains of iconic movie sets such as “Jaws,” “King Kong,” and “Fast and Furious.”
The California Highway Patrol will lead further investigation, the sheriff’s office said.
