“Ultrawide” is a term for monitors that has more to do with aspect ratio than size. In fact, it starts at about 29 inches, which is slightly above standard. But this deal definitely gets you a super-superlative with a 49-inch wide panel that pushes more than 7 million pixels into your face at once. Today, you can get $100 off the Asus ROG Strix XG49WCR, bringing it down to just $699.99.
The XG49WCR is perfect as a dedicated gaming monitor, essentially functioning as two 27-inch 1440p curved panels squeezed into one. And with resolutions up to 5120×1440, 165Hz refresh rate, and 1ms response time, it’s fast enough to make even the most powerful gaming PC sweat. If you want to get as many games on your monitor as quickly as possible, this is the way to go.
But the screen isn’t just limited to games. It has plenty of connectivity options with USB-C covering DisplayPort, HDMI, and video, as well as a 90-watt USB power delivery for gaming laptops. A built-in USB hub can handle external gadgets such as standard Ethernet ports, and the monitor features a parallel input mode and an integrated KVM switch. Oh, and there are also two 5-watt speakers, but seriously, use headphones or real speakers instead.
The only downside to this design is the VA panel. VA panels are faster, but have much less fine color accuracy than IPS. For example, I wouldn’t rely on this monitor for editing work in Photoshop. But it’s a pretty fair trade-off to the retail price, and at this discount it’s an absolute bargain.
