All Quiet on the Western Front is the third film adaptation of the book, the other two being released in 1930 and 1979. Paul Baumer, played by Felix Kammerer, joins the German army with two of his friends at the beginning of World War I. , Baumer learns the harsh reality of war.
The film separates itself from part of the story in the book by weaving in a parallel story of armistice negotiations. “Snow Society”
“Society of the Snow” is based on Pablo Wielci’s 2009 book about the 1972 plane crash in the Andes that the Uruguayan rugby team experienced. However, if you know what happened, you’ll know that your stomach will be hardened before you even start watching the movie. The young men resort to cannibalism to survive, barely surviving in the harsh and rugged environment.
A movie about the same incident was released in 1993, but the book it was based on was written by an author who grew up with many of the real-life survivors of the incident. This gives the film a unique element and further depicts the reality experienced by young people at that time. No wonder it has been nominated for two Oscars and has a 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
