- The video shows a Ukrainian soldier single-handedly fighting off 10 Russian soldiers.
- It included intercepting Russian communications from which enraged commanders issued orders.
- The final shot shows a drone dropping explosives on Russian soldiers. Viewer discretion is advised.
The video appears to show a Ukrainian soldier fending off 10 Russian soldiers in close-quarters trench warfare.
The video shows Ukrainian soldiers repeatedly emerging from their trenches, firing machine guns and throwing grenades at Russian soldiers.
The video was shared on Telegram by the 8th Independent Mountain Assault Battalion of Ukraine’s 10th Mountain Assault Brigade, known as Edelweiss, and appears to include audio of intercepted Russian radio communications.
The audio shows an enraged Russian commander issuing urgent orders to his subordinates: “Go and kill every single one of these bastards sitting there.”
“Throw a grenade at him! Someone should go down and throw a grenade where he’s hiding!” he said, according to a translation by the X account WarTranslated.
“One man is blocking you! One! Ten!” says the Russian commander.
Desperate Russian soldiers are also attacked from above by Ukrainian military drones. In the final graphic drone shot, explosives are dropped on Russian soldiers and they are torn apart.
According to Bridge, the skirmish took place in December, and Russian soldiers were “plannedly destroyed by artillery and drones.”
The only Ukrainian fighter emerged unharmed, it said.
It’s unclear when and where the video was filmed, and Business Insider could not independently verify it.
The Edelweiss Brigade said it shared the video to commemorate the second anniversary of the invasion of Russia.
“Today marks exactly two years of our relentless and courageous fight against our mortal enemy, not only for the right to freedom and self-determination, but also for the right to life,” they wrote.
“And this episode is just one of 100, or maybe one of 1,000.”
As the war intensified, it became a war of attrition, with both sides trying to undermine each other.
Russia recently secured victory by capturing the town of Avdiivka, seen as the “gateway” to Donetsk, but suffered heavy losses in personnel and equipment in the process.
Although Ukraine suffered slightly fewer losses, its population is about a third of Russia’s, meaning it is suffering severely from a labor shortage.
Ukraine is also dealing with a holdup in aid packages from its main ally, the United States.
Western support was a key factor in Ukraine’s success in preventing a complete Russian takeover, and analysts say whether Ukraine wins the war depends on it.
