WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (KABC) — A West Hollywood gym owner is recovering after being pistol whipped while fending off an attempt to steal his Rolex watch.
The brazen daylight attack occurred Tuesday afternoon in the 8300 block of Sunset Boulevard. The video shows three suspects approaching a man on the street as he walks his Maltipoo dog, named Hercules.
At least one suspect has a gun. When he retreated, they began punching and pistol-whipping him, then curled up on the ground, refusing to let go of his Rolex and attempting to defend himself.
The victim told Eyewitness News that he only instinctively fought back, even though his assailants were shouting, “Take it off, take it off, we’ll shoot you, we’ll shoot you.”
The suspects eventually fled in a car without the watch.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, a similar robbery occurred nearby about an hour later.
In that incident, four suspects in a black Cadillac robbed a man of his watch on the street near Third Street and Cochran Avenue, at least one of whom was in possession of a semi-automatic handgun. Police have not confirmed whether they are the same suspects in the attempted Rolex robbery.
The suspects remain unsolved.
