Meta, the parent company of WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook, is introducing a new assistant, Meta AI. This means, for example, that you can use WhatsApp in a completely new way. It is currently in beta, but is still under development. And that’s not the case with the iPhone’s iMessage app.
WhatsApp’s new image creation feature is currently in beta.
The company says, “With Meta Llama 3, we believe Meta AI is the most intelligent AI assistant available for free. And now available in more countries through our app, you can now find out what’s in your fridge. It helps you plan your dinner, study for your test and much more. ”
One of the coolest ways to express this is through image creation. The Meta example shared yesterday shows how to “inspire creativity with Meta AI’s Imagine capabilities.” Here’s how it works: Suppose you start typing a sentence like “Imagine a soccer game on Mars.” As you read each individual word, pictures appear in quick succession, first an image of a soccer match, then a picture with an appropriate red sand background. This is very impressive, and in Meta’s example, surprisingly fast.
At this time, the changes are targeted to users in the United States. Meta says: “We’re accelerating image generation so you can create images from text in real time using Meta AI’s Imagine feature. Start deployment.”
If you have access to the beta version, you can try it out for yourself (choose your own planet, sport, or other topic, of course). The key to everything is to use “imagine” as the first word to trigger the prompt.
Mehta says the images are “clearer, higher quality, and the ability to include text with images has also been improved.”
Meta AI is also claimed to provide “helpful prompts with ideas for changing images” so you can keep iterating from your initial starting point.
You can also take your favorite images and animate them or turn them into gifs.
Some of these features powered by Meta AI are available on WhatsApp, Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram outside of the United States. Meta AI is Australia, Canada, Ghana, Jamaica, Malawi, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, Singapore, South Africa, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
However, as mentioned above, the Imagine feature is currently exclusive to WhatsApp and the Meta AI web experience in the US.
We all know that AI can do amazing and amazing things. What’s new and urgently important here is that it’s available for free in the apps people use all the time. And that’s a revolutionary change.
