A few weeks ago, Google rebranded its AI platform Bard, now known as Gemini. Apart from additional service options such as Gemini Advanced, the company also casually announced that he can now replace his Google Assistant on Android with Gemini.
This is not a perfect exchange. As a digital assistant, Gemini can offer many useful AI features, but it may not be ready for prime time yet, as it can’t perform some of the basic tasks of Google Assistant, such as accessing your calendar. There is a gender. Still, if you’re interested in testing out his AI bot as a smartphone assistant, you’re not out of luck. Microsoft’s Copilot offers another AAA AI option.
In the latest beta update of the Copilot app, Microsoft included the ability to set Copilot as your default assistant. You will then be able to start Copilot by long-pressing the power button. However, its implementation is far from ideal at the moment. As Mishal Rahman reported on X (formerly Twitter), when you activate the Assistant, it simply launches a Copilot activity instead of showing Copilot on your screen like a typical digital assistant. Additionally, you can’t activate the co-pilot with your voice (so don’t even say “hello co-pilot”).

Rahman speculates that Microsoft may be working on these integrations, and I agree. After all, the feature is currently only available in beta, and there’s a lot Microsoft can do before it’s released to the public.
How to turn Copilot into your Android assistant
If you want to try Copilot as your assistant, even in its current limited form, you’ll first need to access the beta version of the Copilot app. Fortunately, it’s very easy. Go to Copilot’s Play Store page and scroll to the bottom. participate Under Join the beta.Tap participate In a pop-up. Next, make sure you have the latest version of the Copilot app.
Once all settings are complete, open Settings > Apps > Default apps > Digital assistant appTap , then Default digital assistant app and select co-pilot. It’s worth noting that even as a beta tester of Copilot, I don’t see this option on my end right now. As such, Microsoft may roll out this update slowly.
