I should have seen it Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse as a candidate maestro — This is an amazing feat of animation and storytelling. american fiction and holdovers They were fun, but very old-fashioned in terms of story and filmmaking, meaning they weren’t cutting edge. When I first heard about it, barbieI couldn’t even imagine it being here, but after seeing it I couldn’t imagine it wasn’t, because that’s Ms. Greta [Gerwig] nailed it. Murderers of the Flower Moon There was a lot of great stuff in there, but a movie doesn’t have to be 3 hours and 25 minutes. Like me, many people had to watch it at home, and unlike me, many people probably couldn’t watch the movie. Take it to the end. If someone other than Martin Scorsese had made it, the studio would have said, “We’ve got to cut that. We don’t need to see scenery for two and a half minutes.” But I think he earned it. past life It was beautifully simplified. I love movies like this. It tells a human story, there’s a lot going on beneath the surface, and there are no antagonists outside of time and space. poor thing It’s part of Yorgos [Lanthimos’] I can’t wait to see it again because it was a great production and the entire cast was phenomenal. structure of overturning That monologue in which Sandra Hüller tears apart her husband has stuck with me deeply over time. But for me, the choice is oppenheimer and zone of interest It was very difficult. oppenheimer It is a film that advances cinema by inventing new film stocks, using IMAX cameras for close-ups and dialogue scenes, and merging image and sound. If you love movies, this is the cinematic experience for you. It’s sad to think that one day I’ll die because I won’t be able to see movies like this. But there was no movie that made me who I am. feel like zone of interest. That’s what filmmaking is supposed to do. I didn’t mean to say that the Holocaust was bad. It showed how unimportant it is to the people doing it, just like today when people are going about their daily lives while horrible things are happening all over the world. I’ve seen a lot of reviews by people who didn’t get it, including critics of . new york times. Some people think they are watching a boring movie that trivializes the Holocaust. But they need to increase their understanding of what’s going on here.

Best Director Award
This was easy: [Oppenheimer’s] Christopher Nolan has since deserved to win this award. dark KnightAnd he truly deserves the award for this work, which is the most monumental achievement of his career.express my admiration oppenheimer The team did a great job of demystifying the process and showing people what he had to do to make this movie — I have a lot of little videos and stuff on YouTube and social media. I’ve seen it, probably reused by Nolan fanboys, so I can’t afford to miss it.

[Maestro’s] Bradley Cooper was really good. [American Fiction’s] Jeffrey Wright was phenomenal. [The Holdovers’] with Paul Giamatti [Oppenheimer’s] One of them will win because Cillian Murphy was great. But I’ve always loved Colman Domingo as an actor and loved his performance. rustin — Bayard Rustin has always fascinated me — so I want to give him some love.

emma [Stone, of Poor Things] The courage and bravery it took to put yourself out there like she did was amazing.and lily [Gladstone, of Killers of the Flower Moon], there’s such a quiet power to her performance. She was going to vote for Lily, but she moved her mouse at the last minute. She decided to vote for Sandra [Hüller, for Anatomy of a Fall]. We didn’t see this woman until 2023, and then we saw her give her amazing performance in two completely different roles. [the other in The Zone of Interest] It made me realize how talented she is. I want to see her in more things.

Best Supporting Actor Award
I was torn between [Poor Things’] with mark ruffalo [Oppenheimer’s] Robert Downey Jr. and cheesy but true. I met Downey at an awards season party, and there was an interaction that I didn’t initiate that tipped the scales for me. Campaigns are important! [laughs] What’s really great about him as an actor, in this movie and many others, is his ability to always be believable. I loved watching him change directions as the story turned towards Strauss.

I wish Sandra Hüller was here. zone of interestBut I can’t really argue with the people who came in.Jody [Foster, in Nyad] and emily [Blunt, in Oppenheimer] It was very good and [Barbie’s] america ferrera [The Color Purple’s] with Daniel Brooks [The Holdovers’] Da’Vine Joy Randolph was amazing. Daniel will be back here soon. But Da’Vine was so emotionally captivating and subtle that you could miss it if you weren’t paying attention. Actresses like her, plus-size black women, are rarely afforded the kind of opportunities that Alexander Payne gave her.they were really smart [Focus] Pair her with Paul and do various things [Giamatti]which kept her in a big spotlight.

i would have exchanged maestro or May December for salt burnIt was a really fun, weird, unique, big swing movie. holdover It was solid. But for me this is past life and structure of overturning, it was very close.and anatomy, I loved the structure and the teasing of things, especially that it didn’t give us any answers. You, the audience, have to decide. And for the record, I think she did it. [laughs]

boy and heron I was fine. robot dream surprised me.But that is Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse With a difference of 1 mile.Very disappointed in what they did to Joaquin Dos Santos [one of the film’s three credited directors, who was denied a nomination because of the Academy’s rule that a nominated film in this category can be represented by no more than two of its directors and two of its producers, or, as was the case with Spider-Verse, two directors, a producer and a producing team].

Well, there are a lot of sad movies nominated this year — eternal memory, four daughters, how to kill a tiger. 20 days [in Mariupol] It was too difficult to get through. bobi wine [The People’s President] He was also upset, but now he can see a little better. Best Film Editing Award
Most Academy members don’t know how to judge film editing, so they award the most obvious film editing, even though the best editing is often seamless. I think all of these candidates are worthy. Murderers of the Flower Moon – she [Thelma Schoonmaker] probably kept it from happening four time. [laughs] But I went with you. oppenheimer That’s because of the clever integration of various elements, including a literal atomic spiral inside the camera.he [Nolan] It wasn’t easy.

Best original song
liked it Murderers of the Flower Moon Even if you don’t know how to pronounce it [“Wahzhazhe (A Song for My People)”].I’d like to see Diane Warren finally get a term, but it won’t be because of ‘The Fire Inside’ [from Flamin’ Hot]. “I’m Just Ken” is interesting. But it’s vinyl [Billie Eilish and Finneas, songwriters of “What Was I Made For?” from Barbie] For me, so far. When I think of the marriage of song and story, I can think of few who have done something similar in their recent award-winning works. Apart from the movie, it’s still a good song in its own right.

Best Live Action Short Award
I don’t think it’s Wes Anderson [director of The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar] I would have said the same about Pedro Almodóvar. [director of Strange Way of Life] If he was nominated — and he keeps trying. This is a category aimed at new filmmakers, and nominations can provide them with opportunities they would never have had without this spotlight, so these big-name filmmakers can steal the spotlight from them. Taking away the light is selfish. Now, if a new filmmaker can convince a well-known actor to produce or star in a short film, like David Oyelowo, rear, giving them more power. It turned out beautifully.
