gossip – “True power”
Warn girlies and gays, the gossip is back, baby. Led by the impossible to ignore icon and vocalist Beth Ditto, this power-packed single is the title track of her upcoming album. real powerAnd it’s an epic reboot. Ditto has big, brassy vocals that straddle pop-punk synths, disco samples, funky basslines, and a megawatt live show production style that takes you to the pit. Put on your boots and collect some shine — the album will be released on his March 22nd.
maggie rogers – “don’t forget me”
Have a good time here, but not for long? This is your ballad. Maggie Rogers sings a gorgeous tribute to transience with this new single, a track firmly planted in country soil and one of her talents (among other genres). It’s a genre that goes beyond that. A true musical master, Rodgers handles this traditionally structured track with aplomb, from the big-belt chorus to the delicately hopeful lyrics. don’t forget me!
Leticia Sadier – “Panther Lin is unacceptable.”
You probably first met Leticia Sadier in the 90s, when (we imagine) you might have asked her, “What is your zodiac sign?” Based on this amazingly wet music video, we guess it’s a water sign. Not only does this gently flowing track’s visual accompaniment feature plenty of waves, streams, and recommended petrichor, but the song itself also has a gentle, uplifting, nursery rhyme-like quality. It’s a nurturing song to sing with Bebe about surviving life’s challenges.
Get into your deepest, darkest moods with this unapologetically goth single from LA music project Holy Sun Opera House. Hit plays with foreboding drum patterns punctuated by operatic vocals, church organ synths, and shimmering glam metal guitar riffs. This expansive, energetic track isn’t meant for casual listening, so put on your headphones and soak it up. And for all you Lynchians out there, HSOH identifies itself as the band that “would play Twin Peaks Roadhouse.”
KCRW listeners are a creative bunch, so we’ll omit the art school terminology here. flow. Whether in yoga, freewriting, visual media, or live performance of music or movement, a flow state is a state of fluid, ecstatic, and ego-free pure expression. And we believe this contemporary jazz girl track by Nubya Garcia will take you there. From Garcia’s majestic saxophone to exhilarating piano chords and stunning percussion, this track is your ticket to nirvana.
