Personas in Apple Vision Pro are now more realistic with a new (beta) feature the company is calling Spatial Personas.
Previously, Vision Pro’s persona, a semi-3D visual representation of the user, appeared on FaceTime calls made within the headset and simply stood in front of them. However, with Spatial Persona, you can actually place your avatar anywhere in space. Therefore, multiple personas can chat around the coffee table.
This feature became available in visionOS 1.1 in late March.
I used Apple Vision Pro on a flight to Costa Rica and it was confusing.
Spatial personas appear in different positions depending on what you’re doing on your FaceTime call. If you’re watching a movie together, other participants will line up next to you, but if you’re playing a game in SharePlay, they’ll appear across from you. However, you can move it freely in space by pinching and dragging.
Some people have had the opportunity to try out this feature ahead of its release. Inverse’s Ray Wong said spatial personas feel more authentic because they can sit or stand and have realistic eye contact.
