Update: April 2, 2024 marks the 30th anniversary of Final Fantasy VI (originally known as Final Fantasy III) on SNES. And to celebrate, we’ve completely revamped our Best Final Fantasy Games list to include spin-offs as well as mainline games.
But don’t worry. This is still a user-ranked list. This has just been significantly expanded. You can now vote on all versions of the Final Fantasy franchise and all spin-offs. enjoy!
Final Fantasy, one of the world’s biggest RPG series, has many titles. Since the original Final Fantasy was released on the NES in 1987, the series has exploded over the years, launching many important RPGs into the world.
Not content with sticking to a turn-based system, Final Fantasy has always remained an innovator. Final Fantasy IV’s Active Time Battle system introduced a new layer of strategy to combat. Materia allows you to customize your party and their skills in Final Fantasy VII. And Gambits meant that Final Fantasy XII would take on a bit of his MMO feel.
But to actually rank all the Final Fantasy games released on Nintendo systems, we’re not just looking at mainstream RPGs. We will also introduce spin-offs and other releases. So is Final Fantasy III Pixel Remaster better than his DS remake, or is Theatrhythm really the best Final Fantasy game? He’s the only way to know.
We asked Nintendo Life readers to rate every Final Fantasy game they’ve ever played. As long as they’re on a Nintendo console and released in English, they’re games. So Final Fantasy V was released in the West on GBA and Switch, but the SNES (Super Nintendo version) can’t be voted on here. And of course, there are a lot of Final Fantasy games that haven’t been released on Nintendo systems.
We also excluded the Final Fantasy Legend games (these are saga series), Final Fantasy Adventure (first Mana game), be brave series (started as a sequel to the Four Heroes of Light, feel Like the classic Final Fantasy, it’s its own series).
Please note that the order below is updated in real time according to each game’s corresponding user rating. Therefore, there is a good chance that your ranking will be affected even as you read this. Simply click on the “star” game you want to rate and assign a score.
