guess so stick He used his off-road time wisely last year…he plans to launch his own label. gossip.
The label will start next month Couscoushis own fun and bumpy bassline pranks, and Inja About vocal work. Anyone who watched Bowe play in the months leading up to lockdown will have heard that voice.
Armed with a plan that looks as healthy and delicious as Middle Eastern cuisine itself, it also includes his long-awaited news. high contrast Collaboration – In Bow’s own words, this is the most exciting thing he’s ever done. Not bad considering how much he’s already accomplished in his relatively short career thus far.
Currently on a 15-date tour in New Zealand, playing his first show in over a year, we called up the Manchester artist to share a little gossip…
Please tell us more about the label!
I’ve been working on this for the past two years. It’s about finding the right name, the right branding, and the right people to work with. I don’t want it to be a disposable label or just a label. I wanted this to be a place for my special songs, and I’ve stashed away a song that actually started at a rave before lockdown. It’s been a long time, but it’s great to see it come to fruition.
I love the name Gossip. D&B is a very gossipy scene!
that’s right! That’s an aspect I want to explore with podcasts and labels with different types of content. We also have events and costumes. I made so many plans. I have to thank the team. My manager Wilf, David and Dale who are also on the management side, and Hedex, who works on strategy and branding for the label. I literally have the best team to do this.
You have used the lockdown wisely and planned…
Yes, now we just have to wait. We want to release it at the right time, but with raves slowly coming back, we felt now was the right time to start attacking. People are still staying at home and supporting things online, and some are going to raves so DJs can work and play songs again.
Yes, we are in that strange in-between stage! I feel like I heard Cous Cous when I saw them play at Printworks at the end of 2019…
You would, I went through it for at least a year and a half. I sent it to Inja and he laid out this disgusting vocal on top of it and it fit perfectly and nailed it. We made a really bad video for it, and I’m thrilled to death about it. Inja really put the project together for me.
But you named it couscous, right?
of course. In my home country of Algeria, couscous is the most famous food. My mom always made couscous and whenever her friends were around she would make couscous for us. She loves things.
What is your favorite couscous recipe?
you know what? To be honest, I’m not that much of a fan. I fed him too much when he was a child.
Ahaha!
She mashed it with raisins and lamb and this really great sauce. I have to say.
When did you become involved with Inja?
It was around the beginning of lockdown, so I sent him the song and he immediately put the vocals in and it’s been ready ever since. He thought it was a good song to introduce the label. I just want to release music that is real to me. It’s a very personal label for me.
Haven’t you signed any artists?
Of course that might happen in the future, but first I wanted to establish that and enjoy all the freedom of putting some of my music out there that I’ve been itching to release for a long time. I am. Artwork, videos, event selections, and more.
The power of DIY! What happens after this?
Oh, I have a lot of friends. There are a lot of songs that I was working on and playing before all of this. We have a lot of big tunes that we’ve been working on for a long time, including collaborations with Hedex and High Contrast, and we also have a lot of collaborations that we’d like to announce. I’ve never been so excited about anything I’ve ever done. To be honest, it took my breath away.
That’s amazing. How often can we expect releases?
The plan is to release once every two months to space out releases, but cool stuff will be released continuously. have fun!
