Just eight months after ending the club’s 43-year run of winning major trophies, David Moyes was facing calls for his exit from West Ham supporters at Nottingham Forest. Football can be a fickle game.

“It can happen,” Moyes admits. “You’re not perfect throughout the season.
“I’m not saying it’s normal for teams at West Ham level, but quite a few top teams have found it difficult in different months of the year.”
Brentford’s visit is the start of a crucial period and will be one of three games West Ham will play at the London Stadium before next month’s international break.
The last home game ended in a humiliating 6-0 result against Arsenal, with fans rushing for an exit long before full-time. A good result against Brentford will lighten the mood.
Some West Ham fans felt they had had enough when they left before half-time of the match against Arsenal, where the visiting team were leading 4-0.
“When we came in, the crowd might not have been that intense,” Moyes said. “More than 60,000 people now come to watch West Ham at most games, which is an incredible force.”
Moyes wants to channel this energy into supporting his players in times of need, saying: “We had to play without supporters and during the coronavirus pandemic, but the team was great.” .
“When the results aren’t very good, that’s when you really need supporters to support your team.”
Criticism of Moyes should also include a warning that he has had to adapt to life without Declan Rice, with the manager admitting he is “feeling the effects of that a little bit at the moment”.

“We have to be pretty tight on the budget, but we’ve done pretty well recently in terms of acquiring players.”

Tim Steiten may take over as sporting director, but Moyes remains influential in recruiting. After all, he knows that if the team fails, the blame lies with the coach.
