Britain’s Emma Raducanu has been given a wild card to play in next month’s Miami Open.
The 21-year-old has not played since losing to Ukraine’s Angelina Kalinina in Doha on February 12.
Raducanu is ranked 252nd in the world as he continues his comeback from an eight-month injury layoff.
Former major champions Venus Williams, 43, and Caroline Wozniacki, 33, were also given wild cards to the hard court tournament in Miami.
The event is one of the largest outside of the four major tournaments and will begin on March 17th.
It remains to be seen whether Raducanu will play in Indian Wells, Calif., which opens on March 6, before Miami as part of the “Sunshine Double.”
On Thursday, she posted an Instagram Story that appeared to indicate her arrival in Los Angeles.
Raducanu shot to fame as a teenager with a stunning victory in the 2021 US Open qualifying round, but she is too low-ranked to directly compete in the WTA’s top tournaments.
The former British number one was able to qualify for last month’s Australian Open without qualifying because of his protected injury ranking of 103rd.
However, because of the rule that allows players to freeze their rankings if they are out for more than six months, Raducanu was unable to compete directly in the main tournaments in Indian Wells or Miami.
There are eight wild cards available for Indian Wells, and seven-time major champion Williams of the United States and former world number one Wozniacki of Denmark have already claimed two.
If Raducanu does not earn a wild card at Indian Wells, she may play in the qualifiers.
Raducanu missed most of the 2023 season after undergoing surgery on both wrists and ankles, but returned to the tour in January.
She has won three of her seven matches back so far, and after her loss to Kalinina, she returned to the UK and trained at LTA’s National Tennis Center instead of competing in Dubai as a wild card. is what happened.
