2023 was a great year for entertainment. From “Barbie” to Olivia Rodrigo’s “Guts” to the resurgence of the Fortnite craze, everyone has had a chance to see their favorite things in the headlines. The movie industry was great in 2023, with new blockbusters popping up at every turn. Here are some of our favorite movies of 2023.
barbie
Barbie was the most successful and talked-about movie of 2023, grossing $1.4 billion at the box office. But this movie deserves to be loved. Although the film was a hilarious addition to the Barbie franchise, it carried a larger message: the social norm that women must make all kinds of sacrifices for the sake of others. Margot Robbie played the perfect Barbie and Ryan Gosling was just Ken. This movie is a great combination of fantasy and reality, and mojo dojo casa house really resonated with me. Barbie also gave us the song “I’m Just Ken,” which is a natural fan favorite. If you’ve never seen Barbie, we recommend getting a bunch of friends together and having a Barbie movie night.

oppenheimer
Oppenheimer, also known as the second half of Barbenheimer, was also a big hit. It focused on the Manhattan Project, which produced the atomic bomb in the United States during World War II. The film was star-packed, including Florence Pugh, Matt Damon, Cillian Murphy, and Robert Downey Jr. Oppenheimer’s actors were phenomenal, some of the best acting I’ve seen all year. Plus, watching it in the theater really felt like I had traveled back in time. If you’ve never seen Oppenheimer and can’t believe how great he is, take a look at the five Golden Globes he won this year. Just like Barbie, this movie is a must-see.

anyone but you
“Anybody But You” was the romantic comedy of the year, starring Sidney Sweeney and Glen Powell. A lot of girls on social media are saying that Anybody But You is the best romantic comedy since How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, and I agree. This movie was the perfect combination of romance and humor. The addition of relatable characters, like Bea, who wanted to make her ex-boyfriend jealous, truly completed the movie. Hilarious, semi-realistic scenes also add an original touch to the film, such as the scene where Ben is attacked by a spider and the moment he falls off the boat on the Titanic (who doesn’t love Titanic?). . If you haven’t seen it yet, we recommend heading to your local theater as soon as possible or adding it to your must-see list once it’s released on your streaming service.
Anyone But You is still in theaters with a Valentine’s Day encore, but will soon be available to stream on Amazon Prime.

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes
Arguably the most popular dystopian series of this century, The Hunger Games is loved by fans around the world. With a strong fan base and a great cast including Rachel Ziegler and Tom Bryce, “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” was poised to be a success. However, this movie did not disappoint anyone. With an interesting plot, great costumes, and a scene with Coriolanus with a shaved head, this movie was just as great as his other four movies in the Hunger Games series. Rachel Ziegler’s portrayal of Lucy Gray Baird was exactly what I imagined while reading the book, and her singing was also great. If you haven’t seen the Hunger Games series yet, I recommend watching all five movies. If you’ve seen the first four of his, this is his phenomenal fifth addition to the series, making it a must-see for any dystopian fan.

Saltburn is a psychological thriller that focuses on Oliver Quick’s experiences at his friend’s holiday home. While there, mass murders and deaths occurred among his family with whom he was staying. Fans of Knives Out, this movie is for you. The film, starring Jacob Elordi, who often appears on most attractive men’s lists, had a diverse fan base, from murder mystery buffs to teenage girls who watched Euphoria. If you’ve seen this movie, you’ll know that it’s a little weird to watch. But that weirdness only makes the movie better. Saltburn is a great movie to watch when you want to see something new and exciting, so I highly recommend watching it.
