Google has started rolling out the April security update for Pixel smartphones and Pixel Tablets. The company is also rolling out monthly updates for the Pixel Watch at the same time.
All Pixel devices running Android 14 should receive the new software in April. The rollout will continue over the next few days depending on carrier and device.
With the latest update, Google has rolled out several Android 14 security fixes and 25 patches specifically for Pixel devices. This update also includes several improvements for Pixel users. These include:
biometric authentication
- Fixed an issue that caused a black screen to appear when unlocking the screen in certain situations (Pixel 5a 5G)
camera
- Fixed camera stability under certain conditions when switching between different zooms (Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7a, Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel Fold )
- Fixed an issue that caused a black halo artifact to appear in the viewfinder under certain conditions when transitioning from photo mode to video mode at 1x zoom (Pixel 8, 8 Pro)
- Fixed an issue where users could not re-expose the image after tapping anywhere on the viewfinder (Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7a, Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro , Pixel Fold)
This update comes with software version AP1A.240405.002 for Pixel 5a 5G and newer devices, including the Pixel Fold, which is version AP1A.240405.002.A1.
Pixel Watch April 2024 update
Both Pixel Watch and Pixel Watch 2 will also receive the April update. It comes with version number TWD9.240405.001 and brings a number of bug fixes and performance updates for Pixel Watch users. Google’s changelog includes:
vibrating clock
- When the user gestures on the watch face, the current time is played with haptics
automatic brightness improvement
- Improved the auto brightness settings screen experience to make it easier for users to notice the difference when switching between levels.
You’ll see an OTA notification when an update is available for your Pixel Watch. The rollout will continue in stages over the next week.
