Do you travel a lot and wish you could wirelessly send movies from your Apple device to your hotel room TV? If so, you’re in luck. Apple just announced that it has updated iOS 17 with a new feature that lets you use AirPlay at various IHG Hotels & Resorts properties.
Following an announcement made by Apple last summer, this update means it will be much easier to stream movies directly from your Apple device to your hotel room’s smart TV. No more fiddling with cables and instead connect via AirPlay to send footage from your iPhone, iPad, or Mac directly to the big screen.
AirPlay works with many of the best streaming services, including Apple TV+, Disney+, and Hulu. You can also use AirPlay to send content stored on your device to your TV (or another Apple device). In addition to movies and TV, you can stream music, view photos, give presentations, play games, send your workout to another screen, and more.
Apple says you can do all of this at “select properties from IHG Hotels & Resorts.” These include Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants, Hotel Indigo, Candlewood Suites, and InterContinental Hotels & Resorts. More than 60 IHG hotels in North America are eligible, with “more hotels to be added in the coming months,” Apple said.
Check before you go
If you would like to take advantage of this, we recommend checking with your hotel prior to arrival. Apple doesn’t reveal exactly which hotels or locations will offer AirPlay-enabled TVs (besides starting in North America), but says, “For more information on availability, check out participating hotels and locations. It will be available from the resort’s facilities.”
First, you need to scan the QR code on the TV screen in your hotel room. This will connect your device to your TV and then you can start transmitting content. He’s not limited to just one connected device, as he can connect multiple iPhones, iPads, and Macs to his one TV via AirPlay.
Apple goes on to say, “Each QR code is unique to a hotel room, ensuring that content is only available to the user. This means that anything a guest shares to a hotel TV is personal and private.” It becomes something,” he adds. Your connection will also be erased upon checkout, making your activity inaccessible to hotel staff and future guests.
