Meta (formerly Facebook) announced on Monday that it is launching an election operations center to combat the spread of misleading artificial intelligence (AI) content in the 2024 European Union (EU) parliamentary elections.
The tech giant brings together experts from across the company from intelligence, data science, engineering, research, operations, content policy, and legal teams to identify potential threats and implement specific mitigations in real-time across apps and technology. I will teach you.
EU parliamentary elections will be held from June 6th to June 9th.
“We are committed to taking a responsible approach to new technologies like GenAI and have signed a technology agreement to combat the proliferation of deceptive AI content in elections,” said Meta’s head of EU affairs. Marco Pancini said in a blog post.
Meta will focus on three key areas: combating misinformation, tackling influence manipulation, and addressing the risks associated with misuse of GenAI technology.
The tech giant also said it has the largest fact-checking network of any platform and is currently expanding its network with three new partners in Bulgaria, France, and Slovakia.
The company announced that it has invested more than $20 billion in safety and security since 2016 and quadrupled the size of its global team working in this area to approximately 40,000 people.
This includes 15,000 content reviewers who review content across Facebook, Instagram, and Threads in over 70 languages (including all 24 official EU languages).
