PALO ALTO — A woman who allegedly left in an empty Amazon delivery van has been arrested by Palo Alto police, it was announced Sunday.
On Thursday afternoon, an Amazon delivery driver called police to say someone had stolen the van he was carrying.
Police say the delivery driver parked his van in the 400 block of West Charleston Road in Palo Alto, put the keys in the ignition and left the engine running and hopped out to make the delivery.
When he returned, he saw the van drive away. He watched the car make a U-turn on West Charleston Road and head southwest on El Camino Real.
Amazon dispatchers worked with police to track the van’s movements, and the woman eventually parked it at an Amazon facility in the 900 block of McLaughlin Street in San Jose.
All of the belongings in the van were disposed of, and the woman told police she was just going back to San Jose.
Detectives booked Elena Flores, 36, of San Jose, into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on suspicion of felony theft of a vehicle and committing a felony while on bail. This is also a serious crime.
