After receiving the honor from Jude Law at the end of the ceremony in Santa Monica, director Celine Song took to the stage with the film’s team to share some heartfelt words.
“I have a wonderful opportunity to speak on behalf of the amazing filmmakers we have here,” said Song. “It’s a great honor to be here and talk about this film.”
The filmmaker, who also won Best Director on Sunday, went on to talk about the deeper themes that are also present in the film and what they mean to her.
“There’s a concept in our film, and it’s an oriental concept…and it’s that finding and being in the same space and time in this life is actually what we did in a life before this one. It’s about what it meant to us that we knew each other. And I think while making this film, I’ve felt that way about all of the people on stage here, and they feel the same way. I know you feel like that.”
Song continued, “Being able to accept the award for Best Feature on behalf of everyone and our team is a feeling that made me realize what I was feeling. I feel a little less lonely knowing that everyone feels the same way,” he added.
The award for best feature will go to film producers including David Hinojosa, Pamela Koffler and Christine Vachon.
Other nominees in this category for the Spirit Awards are: all of us strangers, american fiction, May December, aisle and we have grown now.
