Movies about giant monsters tend to be fun, regardless of quality. Of course, films with groundbreaking special effects and interesting human-focused stories tend to be considered the best of the genre, but even the cruder examples of this type of film have their own unique characteristics. There are moments. Perhaps some fans of giant monster movies (also known as kaiju movies) actually prefer something a little cheesier.but by the same token, something like this kind of movie can go too far in that direction.
The following giant monster movies are good examples, all of which can be considered weak examples of the genre. You might find traces of fun in some of these, but at the same time, if you’re a big monster movie fan, or someone who’s already seen all the really good movies that feature one or more big monsters, I can only recommend it. We rank these sometimes intriguing, sometimes frustrating anti-classics below. It starts with something not so good and ends with something really miserable.
Ten “Giant Claw” (1957)
Director: Fred F. Sears
For better or worse, huge claws It contains one of the most visually distinctive giant monsters in movie history, even if it ends up being horrifying to look at, for intentional, or perhaps unintentional, reasons. Narratively, the film is as simple as a monster of this kind, depicting the chaos that unfolds when the discovery of a UFO is actually a giant bird terrorizing the people of the world.
Look, there’s a bird monster. huge claws ” has an unforgettable design, and that alone makes this movie somewhat memorable, and it’s not one of the worst giant monster movies ever made. However, the film as a whole is very middling at best by the standards of his 1950s B-movies. Although only 74 minutes long, some sections of the film still test your patience..

9 “Godzilla” (1998)
Director: Roland Emmerich
It was fun too Godzilla Although not made in Japan, where the series is based, the 1998 film Godzilla Not one of them, even if it was the first fully American Godzilla Movies (excluding re-edited and re-dubbed old Japanese films). In fact, the iconic monster only appears in the title, as the beast that terrorizes New York City in this film is a different kind of beast than any version of the beast that fans of the series may be accustomed to.
Roland Emmerich When you think about it, this wasn’t the worst choice for a manager to lead. independence day ” was a fun blockbuster, and the filmmaker clearly knew how to tackle a big-budget sci-fi/action movie. It’s still 1998 Godzilla It doesn’t really work, has little inspiration, and feels cluttered and put together. It’s not as interesting as a movie about a giant lizard running amok in an American city..

8 “The Meg” (2018)
Director: Jon Turteltaub
Now, for the sake of my honor, megat least they seem to understand that nothing beats a classic shark movie like this. jawsTherefore, even though their basic premise is comparable, the approaches they take vary widely in tone and genre. The film revolves around people coming face-to-face with giant sharks, but it’s more action-focused than most other shark movies, and the title shark is a 75-foot-long megalodon. Stands out.
This makes this movie more of a giant monster movie than any other shark movie featuring a relatively small “great” great white shark, but that’s something to be admired. meg finish. The problem isn’t that it’s cartoonish or stupid. It’s that it’s boring and yet almost incorrigiblewhose carnage and action are largely held back by a PG-13 rating (even with a PG rating) jaws Obviously, the 1970s were a different era, but bloodier and more intense.

7 “Godzilla: Star Eater” (2018)
Director: Kofumi Shizuno, Hiroyuki Seshita
Yes, even Godzilla, King of the Monsters, has appeared in a not-so-amazing American-made/non-Roland Emmerich-directed movie. The most recent of these, surprisingly, is from 2018. godzilla star eaterThis is the final part of the anime trilogy. Godzilla A movie with potential (and the first installment, 2017’s godzilla monster planetnot terrible), but ultimately turned out to be disappointing.
This trilogy was supposed to feel fresh as it tells the story of humanity traveling to the far future and trying to reclaim Earth from a variety of recognizable giant monsters. Perhaps in an ideal world, 2023 would have been the other way around. godzilla minus one, it felt refreshing to go back in time. Each movie in the trilogy feels less interesting and inspired than the previous one. planet eater It’s a completely lackluster ending that doesn’t take advantage of the futuristic setting or the fact that it’s animation, so it could probably experiment with scale and spectacle more than live-action. Godzilla Film is possible. avoid!

6 “War of the God Monsters” (1985)
Director: Kim Jeong-young
Although not as famous as 1985, PulgasariIt’s made in North Korea, battle of gods monster ‘ is another monster movie made in the same region (South Korea). Pulgasari There’s a fascinating behind-the-scenes story that makes it an oddity worth exploring, even if it’s not very good. battle of gods monster Unfortunately, it’s a bit boring.
Most monster sequences are battle of gods monster taken from an episode of Ultraman, much of the rest of the film consists of uninteresting melodrama centered around humans occasionally witnessing the titular monster. It’s certainly a strange giant monster movie clearly made on a budget, but While not low-budget in the glamorous or endearing sense, instead feels cheap and put together in a bad/lazy way.

Five “Ape E” (1976)
Director: Paul Reader
A-pe-e clearly trying to emulate the success of king kong and its various sequels/re-imaginings, released around the same time as the 1976 work. king kongstarred in jeff bridges and jessica lang. No one would call the latter a great giant monster movie, but it’s still a lot more consistent. A-pe-econtains short bursts of goofy fun, but is mostly pretty boring.
still, A-pe-e Things get off to a good start, with the titular giant ape exploding a boat, then battling sharks and slowly destroying several buildings, but then boredom sets in. There’s another iconic scene where the monkey destroys a helicopter and immediately knocks the bird over on its wreckage.otherwise, A-pe-e This is a tedious read and should be skipped by all but the most hardcore monster movie fans (at least after checking out the aforementioned highlights).

Four “All Monsters Attack” (1969)
Director: Ishiro Honda
When it comes to choosing the worst movie, Godzilla series, you’ll usually choose between 1998 and 1998. Godzilla and in 1969 All monsters attack (Most people have completely forgotten about animated movies). To the former’s credit, at least it consisted of all new footage, which at the time was novel for a non-Japanese take on the series. All monsters attackOn the other hand, it’s basically a glorified clip show.
Monster movies for kids aren’t inherently bad, but All monsters attack It just happens to be bad Godzilla The most children’s movie in the series. The little story here revolves around a bullied kid who befriends Godzilla’s son, Minilla, who is also a bullied kid (many would say it’s no surprise). Almost every other monster scene and action moment reuses clips from other movies. Godzilla movieBecause I have seen it in All monsters attack You might wish you had looked at some other old school Godzilla movie instead.

3 “Conga TNT” (2020)
Director: Brett Kelly
There are plenty of giant monster movies that are still worth watching even if they don’t feature Godzilla or King Kong. Conga TNT Unfortunately, I can’t count myself as one of them. It was supervised by Brett KellyWho is the mastermind behind other titles like ? jurassic shark, Raiders of the Lost Sharkand of course, ouija sharkIn case you want to know what’s being covered here.
premise of Conga TNT It depicts a monkey exposed to an alien compound that transforms into a gigantic beast, causing chaos and destruction. There are also low budget movies. after that Conga TNTappears to have been made for about $4.50. I might feel a little guilty criticizing it too harshly since it has its limits in terms of production value, but then again, this is one of those boring, low-budget monster movies that just isn’t fun. , I don’t even feel like trying. It is something that should be avoided at all costs.

2 “Gamera the Great Monster” (1980)
Director: Noriaki Yuasa
the same as All monsters attack, Gamera: Super Monster I feel like it’s the worst Gamera That’s because most of it consists of clips from older movies in the series. In addition, some argue that: Gamera The series wasn’t all that great to begin with, at least before 1980. Godzilla series (although most of them still have some level of appeal).
The word attractive doesn’t apply. Gamera: Super MonsterHowever, this purports to have the titular monster have a series of “rematches” with old foes, and it reuses old footage to a frankly embarrassing degree. Children who are fans of Gamera It’s unlikely the series would fall into such a lazy movieAnd by the same token, avid fans of these movies are unlikely to find the patience to sit and watch them all. Gamera: Super Monster.

1 “Ape vs. Monster” (2021)
Director: Daniel Rusko
It remains to be seen whether the infamous The Asylum will ever become known for producing more than mockbusters. 2021 stuff monkey vs monster One of the film company’s worst productions so far. It’s a movie that clearly tries to make it look like it’s going to be misunderstood. godzilla vs kongboth of which are expected to be released in the first half of 2021.
now, godzilla vs kong it’s not citizen kane Or at least it’s silly fun to watch a giant ape collide with a giant lizard (and it’s not even trying to be), and it’s all brought to life with some impressive special effects. monkey vs monster Of course, The Asylum isn’t exactly great, it feels like the cheapest cash grab imaginable, and is yet another title that puts The Asylum to shame just by existing. It is possible to live your entire life without watching a single movie produced by The Asylum and die satisfied, so those who seek eternal happiness in their remaining days should avoid watching any of The Asylum’s films. You should keep that in mind. monkey vs monster (definitely) included.
