Hey Upper East Siders. Gossip Girl, and we have the biggest news ever…
Thanksgiving is almost here, but I'm not of Gossip Girl, I can still use the power of my keyboard and internet connection to recreate all the crazy ways Blair, Serena, Nate, Dan, Jenny, and more celebrated the holidays. Believe it or not, among all the drama, this series has managed to throw some wholesome moments into the mix as well.
Find all Thanksgiving-centric events here gossip girl An episode I want to watch again before the holidays. And for those who aren't familiar with the show's fictional New York socialites, please be advised that there are spoilers ahead.
Season 1, Episode 9: “Blair Waldorf's Must Pie”
This episode goes back and forth between Thanksgiving past and present. In the latter (i.e. 2007), Dan invites the van der Woodsen family to Thanksgiving at the Humphries family, but little does Dan, Jenny, and Serena know that their parents have a romantic past. The fact that Lily van der Woodsen was Rufus Humphrey's “first love” is revealed during dinner. And if that wasn't awkward enough, there's an even more romantic revelation before dessert.
A flashback to Thanksgiving a year ago shows Blair, Nate, and a drunken Serena enjoying a happy holiday filled with water fights and tire-print pumpkin pie. The episode ends with a montage of sweet moments featuring the classic soft girl rocking back.
Season 2, Episode 11: “The Magnificent Archibald Family”
HBO's TLDR description for this episode, “It's Thanksgiving and everyone's fighting,” understates the show. Jenny Humphrey is trying to free herself from his family and is no less secretly staying with Eric. The FBI is after Nate's father for more than just fraud and embezzlement. Those in power also believe that Archibald senior is plotting blackmail and kidnapping. Elsewhere, Serena tries to hide her own past from her new girlfriend Aaron but fails, and Lily learns that Bart is keeping information on her and her children.
Interestingly, Prime Minister Blair's issue is the least confusing. She struggles to accept Cyrus' existence, but her problems are made worse when she learns that he and her mother were engaged and had been keeping it hidden from her. “This is the worst Thanksgiving ever. If I have to wander around the Upper East Side like an outcast in a Jane Austen novel, so be it,” she says as she flees her apartment. she tells Dorota, her devoted housekeeper. dramatic? perhaps. But thankfully, this holiday ends with a tearful reunion and a picnic basket full of pies.
Season 3, Episode 11: “The Treasure of Selena Madre”
Thanksgiving dinners at the van der Woodsens family got bigger and messier. Lily, unaware of Serena and Tripp's affair, invites Serena and Tripp's (soon-to-be-separated wife) Maureen to dinner. Meanwhile, Vanessa shows up at Dan's house intending to enjoy her vacation, but she accidentally invites herself and her mother to dinner. And Blair refuses to leave her mother without divulging her secrets that she is keeping, and she convinces Eleanor to stay in her house as well.
