A man killed his mother to claim her life insurance money and settle a large debt due to his addiction to online games, police said. A shocking incident has been reported in Fatehpur, Uttar Pradesh, where accused Himanshu allegedly murdered his mother and abandoned her body near Yamuna river bank to claim insurance money of Rs 50 million. has been done.
Police said the suspect was addicted to gaming on the popular platform Zupee. His addiction was so great that he borrowed money to continue playing after losing so many times. At one point, he found himself in debt of nearly Rs 400,000. The problem was how to repay creditors. What followed was a ruthless conspiracy.
According to police, Himanshu stole the jewelery of his paternal aunt and used the money to buy life insurance policies worth Rs 5 million each for his parents. Shortly after, he allegedly suffocated and killed his mother Prabha while his father was away, police said. He put his body in a gunny bag and drove his tractor to the Yamuna riverbank to dispose of it.
Himanshu’s father, Roshan Singh, had gone to the Chitrakoot temple but when he returned, his wife and son were gone. He asked around and then headed to his brother’s house in the same area. No one knew where Prabha was. Then a neighbor said he saw Himanshu riding a tractor near the river.
Police were alerted and the body was recovered from near Yamuna. Himanshu was arrested immediately. His interrogation reveals that his son hatched a shocking plan to murder his mother to pay off his debt. “His son had killed his mother and was on the run. We nabbed him and uncovered the heinous crime,” senior police official Vijay Shankar Mishra said.
